Ten temat co i rusz pojawia się na naszym forum. Całkiem niedawno pisałem też o SciRun'ie. Teraz przyszedł czas pogłębić te informacje. Dziś napiszę o jednej z ciekawszych propozycji, a mianowicie o VisIt. Jest to budowane w oparciu o wolną licencję Berkeley Software Distribution oprogramowanie  do tworzenia interaktywnych wizualizacji danych, ich analizy oraz przeglądania, dedykowane na systemy Unix i PC. Użytkownicy mogą  tworzyć wizualizacje na podstawie zewnętrznych danych, animować je w czasie, manipulować nimi, i zapisać obrazy powstałe do prezentacji. System zawiera bardzo bogaty zestaw funkcji wizualizacyjnych, dzięki czemu można przeglądać dane w różny sposób. Może być używany do wizualizacji pól skalarnych i wektorowych zdefiniowanych w węzłach dwu i trójwymiarowych (2D i 3D), strukturalnych i niestrukturalnych. Można np wizualizować dane z arkuszy kalkulacyjnych. U swoich podstaw VisIt miał na celu obsługę bardzo dużych rozmiarów zestaw danych w tzw. TeraScalejednak obsługuje także małe zestawy danych w zakresie kilobajtów. Ciekawostką jest współpraca systemu z wieloma popularnymi programami, w tym MES (patrz rozszerzenie news'a ). Twórcą oprogramowania jest Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory pod egidą rządu USA w postaci Department of Energy.
